1934  Alfred Steger died in May 2005 at the age of 93 in San Jose where he had been a longtime resident. Mr. Steger’s passion was agricultural engineering, which he studied at UC Davis. During his undergraduate years, he also played football and participated in the Philo Delphis fraternity. He loved visiting his granddaughter, Jennifer Hunt ’95, when she went to UC Davis and was surprised by how much the school had grown. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Nancy Hunt and Eileen Hendrix; grandchildren, Jennifer Hunt and Scott Hendrix; and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Eli Hendrix.

1948  Dan Irving, M.S. ’62, is proud to announce that his grandson, David Brackett, graduated from UC Davis this year with a doctorate in biochemistry.

1954  Russell Burton, D.V.M. ’56, M.S. ’65, Ph.D. ’70, is one of three recipients of a 2005 Alumni Achievement Award from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Burton, professor emeritus and senior scientist at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, was recognized for his aviation and space physiology research on the effects of extreme gravitational forces upon pilots.

1964  George Kucera retired from practicing law in California and is now a licensed real-estate broker. He has purchased a Help-U-Sell real-estate franchise in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where he lives with his wife, Vladlena. Kucera enjoys fishing and hunting in northern Idaho and still holds his California law license.

1966  Artist Stephen Kaltenbach, M.A. ’67, had almost two dozen of his conceptual works from the last four decades on display in a July show at the Los Angeles gallery Another Year in L.A. Known for his discordant and provocative works, Kaltenbach is also a professor of sculpture at California State University, Sacramento.

1967  Michael Henry Kellicutt, M.A., Ph.D. ’73, a Wisconsin native and resident of Half Moon Bay, died in a car crash in May 2005 at the age of 65. Remembered as a Renaissance man, Dr. Kellicutt developed manufacturing standards for computer disk drives in Silicon Valley while also pursuing photography, exhibiting his works and teaching classes. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Shirley; his son and daughter-in-law, Conor and Cindy; and his grandchildren, Hanna and Shane.

1968  Author David Carkeet has written Campus Sexpot: A Memoir, to be published in September by the University of Georgia Press. A piece of creative nonfiction, the work recounts Carkeet’s adolescent days growing up in Sonora during the 1960s, exploring issues ranging from teenage sexuality to small-town culture.    Ann Saibeni won first prize in the KVIE Art Auction 2005 in Sacramento for her painting Good Company. During her time at UC Davis studying art and English she took courses from Roy DeForest and Wayne Thiebaud.

1970  Noel John Williams, Ph.D. ’75, died of cancer at his home in El Dorado Hills in May 2005. He was 57 years old. Dr. Williams worked for the sustainable development firm CH2M Hill for 29 years, making significant contributions to environmental projects in California and worldwide. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Phyllis, and his daughter, Kristanna.

1971  David Martin has formed an engineering firm, David Martin & Associates, in Kirkland, Wash. The firm specializes in managing transportation design projects.
