1938 Jean Brown Iskra celebrated her 90th birthday by playing 18 holes of golf, attending a surprise birthday luncheon for over 80 relatives and friends, and concluding the day with a swim. She also made her first hole-in-one just two weeks earlier. 1940 Jack Stone received an Award of Distinction from the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. A lifelong farmer and founder of Stone Land Co. in Stratford, Stone has been an advocate for cotton growers and has sought to protect water supplies through his work with such organizations as the Westlands Water District. 1951 Marvin Corff, D.V.M. 53, died in McMinnville, Ore., in February 2005 at the age of 84. Dr. Corff served in the Marine Corps during World War II, earning a silver star for valor, and worked for 30 years as a veterinarian with the Davis Animal Clinic. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, five children, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. 1952 Art Aseltine was presented with the Outstanding Commissioner Award by the California Association of Local Agency Formation Commissions. Aseltine has served as the public member of the Yuba Local Agency Formation Commission for nearly 37 years and has chaired the Yuba commission since 1970. Aseltine, an agricultural engineer, and his wife, Sara Jane, have lived for 38 years in the tree-farm forests of upper Yuba County. 1953 John Stuart Rowe received an Award of Distinction from the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Rowe is a third-generation dairy farmer in Davis, running a family farm that has been in operation since 1894. 1957 Jim Kissler, M.S. 57, died in October 2005 at the age of 79. Mr. Kissler served in the U.S. Navy for two years during World War II before finishing school and joining UC Cooperative Extension as a grape farm advisor. He went on to help establish the Lodi area as a major producer of fine wines. Mr. Kissler was a member of the San Joaquin County Agricultural Hall of Fame and a 1999 recipient of the Lodi-Woodbridge Winegrape Commissions Award of Merit. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Scott Kissler; his children and their spouses, Linda Diane and Scott Rhodes, and Brad and Melinda Kissler; and three grandchildren. 1960 Robert Fridley, M.S., professor emeritus and former department chair of biological and agricultural engineering at UC Davis, received an Award of Distinction from the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Fridleys work has advanced the agriculture, forestry and aquaculture industries. • Lenora Morris received a Best of Show award in the KVIE Art Auction 2005 for her acrylic-on-board entry titled Forest Rocks. • James Ticer, D.V.M. 62, died in June 2005 at the age of 71. Dr. Ticer served in the U.S. Navy before earning degrees in veterinary medicine and radiology. Dr. Ticer taught at the University of MissouriColumbia, the University of Florida and UC Davis, and authored two textbooks on animal X-ray techniques. He and his wife retired to Western Oregon, where they lived until his death. Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Vivian (Oakman) Ticer, three sons and one daughter. 1962 J. Neil Rutger, M.S., Ph.D. 64, received an Award of Distinction from the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Rutger, a rice geneticist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has helped to develop rice varieties that have added billions of dollars to the California economy.
